When she returned to the United States, Tan was exhausted—emotionally, physically, and mentally—from all that she had experienced during the trip. She was a new person, much changed, and she needed time to absorb and contemplate all that had happened. She was not to have that time, however. Shortly after her return, Sandy Dijkstra contacted her with exciting news.
